HCSO issues warning about phone scammers

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is warning people about a phone scam where the caller pretends to be from the sheriff's department.

It happened to a KPRC2 viewer. He says when he didn't give out his information, the scammer threatened to put him in jail.

"He got the address that included the zip code," Alan Barnard said. "I said, 'what is it about?' He said if you don't answer my questions there will be a police at your door to arrest you."

If you get a call like this, deputies say you should never give out your personal information.
