Person of interest sought in violent attempted carjacking

Robbery investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office have released a picture of a person of interest in connection with a violent attempted carjacking at an east Harris County gas station in which a customer pumping gas was shot.

The incident happened Dec. 30. Surveillance video shows a gunman approaching a man who was fueling his Toyota 4Runner. The gunman demands the man's keys at gunpoint, then shoots him in the leg.

Video shows the gunman getting into the SUV, but for some reason not driving away in it. He was last seen running away, heading north on John Ralston Road. The man who was shot was taken to LBJ Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

Investigators would like to talk to the young man seen in the surveillance picture. He is not considered a suspect.

The gunman is described as a black male with a slender build, approximately 5 foot-5 to 5 foot-6 in height and in his early 20s. He was wearing a two-tone blue hoodie and dark pants.
