Driver stole money after ramming into check-cashing truck, Montgomery County deputies say

Investigators say man fired shots at truck windows; No one injured

CONROE, Texas – The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who they say turned over an armored check-cashing truck before stealing money from it.

It happened at around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 14700 block of Firetower Road in Conroe.

Investigators said the check-cashing truck was in the driveway of Applied Machinery, when a black Camaro started ramming into it, eventually overturning it.

The driver of the Camaro then reportedly approached the truck and fired a couple of shots at the truck windows. Luckily nobody inside the truck was injured, but the man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"I was actually watching TV when I heard a couple big bangs," said Randy Reynolds, who lives right across the street from Applied Machinery.

Investigators are calling the incident very bold because it all happened before dark.

"Everybody knows armored cars carry a large amount of cash most of the time and money makes people do some strange things," said Paul Hahs, of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

A description of the suspect is a white or Hispanic man, who at the time of the robbery was wearing dark-colored pants, a black long-sleeve shirt and a dark-colored stocking cap.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Unit at 936-760-5876 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers will pay up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment of a felony crime.  Call 800-392-STOP (7867).
