'Basketbrawl' between Baytown Lee, Lumberton high schools under investigation

HOUSTON – A "basketbrawl" broke out at a high school basketball game in Lumberton that featured a local high school team.

Baytown Lee High School played at Lumberton Tuesday night and during the game an altercation took place between the players.

In viewer video obtained by Local 2, you can see the melee develop and get out of control as fans pour out from the stands onto the court.

Witnesses told Local 2 there was tension between the teams after three quarters of rough play and questionable calls by referees.

In the fourth quarter witnesses say the teams' coaches got into a shouting match and the video appears to show a Lumberton player shove a Baytown Lee player.

That move sent students, and adults rushing out of the stands and onto the court.

Lumberton ISD said one Baytown Lee student was ejected from the game.

Goose Creek ISD said after the incident was under control all fans were asked to leave the gym and the game continued. Baytown Lee won the game 59-47.

The fight was the talk of the Baytown Lee campus Wednesday, going viral on Instagram and Facebook.

"Who does that at a basketball game basically?" asked sophomore Ckodtie Barrington.

The district said in a statement that the incident is being investigated and discipline will be administered if necessary.

Lumberton police are also investigating the brawl.
