The announcement was made by Mayor Annise Parker.

Council still must confirm Edmunson's new role. She has been practicing law with the city's legal department for nearly 30 years.

"Her experience within the city is deep and broad," Parker said. "I am particularly happy that her recent experience has been in the area of neighborhood protection, which has been one of my top priorities since I took office."

Edmunson is replacing City Attorney Dave Feldman, who recently resigned. He'll leave office later this month. Feldman plans to work in private practice with his son.
