Houston homeowners bracing for hard freeze

HOUSTON – Some of the shelves at the Home Depot store on 610 near Ella in The Heights are bare.

Houstonians, bracing for the cold, have purchased most of the store's space heaters.
Bill Lucas was hoping to get one.

"I live in The Heights," he said. "My building is 100 years old. It's pretty leaky."

Experts at Home Depot say if you're going to do just one thing to protect your home from the freezing temperatures, protect your pipes.

"One of the most important things is to cover your pipes," Thomas Miles said. "They can freeze and pop."

The store has also sold a lot of faucet and plant protectors. They remind homeowners that it doesn't cost a lot to protect your home from the cold and it could end up saving you a lot of money in the long run.
