HOUSTON – You're used to seeing him receiving, but on Tuesday Houston Texans player Andre Johnson was doing all the giving.
"I've been in a situation where I really haven't gotten much for Christmas, so to have them go through the store and not worry about that, they can get what they want, it's amazing," said Johnson.
Eleven children from Harris County Child's Protective Services were let loose inside Toys "R" Us on an 80 second shopping spree funded by Johnson.
"It's amazing what they can grab in 80 seconds. I know it's a lot of fun for them to go out and get what they want. They don't only think about themselves, they think about their siblings and it's a great thing," said Johnson.
The grand total from today's shopping spree was $16,266.26.
"I'm prepared for the bill. I just forgot my wallet in the car, but it'll be taken care of," Johnson said laughing.
Johnson then went on to Bastian Elementary School where he teamed up with the Houston Police Department's Blue Santa program to give gifts to kids there.
Academy Sports + Outdoors donated bikes and helmets to 50 kids excelling academically at the school.
But Johnson's Christmas list doesn't include anything from Academy or Toys "R" Us.
"Every year is pertaining to football, so my Christmas list would be getting in the playoffs," said Johnson.
The 6-6 Texans travel to Jacksonville Sunday with kickoff set for noon.
Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson held his annual Toys R Us shopping spree for children in need Tuesday morning.
