HOUSTON – A southwest Houston business owner says someone stole more than $100,000 from him.
The incident happened on Saturday at about 11 a.m. at a convenience store on Bissonnet Street near Rampart Street and was caught on surveillance camera.
"It doesn't matter if they're surveillanced or not. When someone wants something, they'll give it all," said the victim, who didn't want to be identified.
The victim says he had just come back from the bank and was carrying the money with him in his jacket when a man ambushed him at the front door of his convenience store and ran off with the cash.
"I didn't even see. It was like a blind spot," said the victim. "I think I was followed from the bank or they must have been watching me."
The man says he ran after the thief and the two got into a scuffle in the street across the way.
"He was way bigger than me. That's why I couldn't handle him," recalled the victim.
The thiefis described as a black man about 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and between 230 to 240 lbs.
The victim says the man jumped into a black GMC Terrain getaway car with no license plates after the scuffle, and left.
"It is scary because it was a lot of money, you know," said Yvonne Ordonaz, who is an employee at the Metro PCS store next door.
Ordonaz says someone robbed the Metro PCS store just a couple of months ago.
"I have my boss come in and close with me because it is scary around here," she said. "I heard there is a lot of robberies around here."
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the thief. In addition, the owner of the convenience store is offering a $5,000 reward of his own.
