HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old woman and the wounding of her estranged husband. Ciara Shareen Brown was found shot to death Tuesday inside the bedroom of her apartment on Panagard near Westheimer.
"Real sweet young lady," said Don Hilliard, a friend of Brown's. "You want to take a girl's life, that's senseless."
Police said Brown was watching her cousin's 3-month-old baby when witnesses saw her estranged husband show up at the complex. County records show Brown received a marriage license in March 2013.
Houston Police Department investigators said officers were called to Brown's apartment last week because of an argument between the two.
"From what I understand they had a disturbance. Officers were called to the scene. It's her apartment, he left willingly," said HPD investigator Shaun Sylvester.
Investigators said Brown was shot one time in the chest. What is puzzling detectives is that Brown's estranged husband also had a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said he drove himself to West Houston Medical Center, where he's in stable condition.
Police said Brown's cousin's baby was in the bedroom when Brown was shot, but wasn't hurt.
Police said Brown's estranged husband has yet to make any statements. His car was seized and investigators are getting a search warrant to go through it.
