Waller ISD employee resigns after claims of improper communication with student

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – A Waller Junior High School employee is off the job after he was accused of communicating improperly with a student.

Parents were notified by a letter, which read, "You may hear of an allegation made of inappropriate communications between a former Waller Junior High School employee and student. The Waller Independent School District administration takes every allegation seriously and immediately upon learning of the allegations, we began an investigation. The employee alleged to be involved resigned immediately. We have turned this matter over to the Harris County Sheriff's Office where it remains an active investigation. Accordingly, there is little additional information that I disclose to you at this time. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement."

The letter went on to say, "The safety and well being of the students and staff is the highest priority and WISD will not tolerate an employee who engages in inappropriate communications with children."

Jeremy Miles said he's worried about his son who is a sixth-grader at Waller Junior High School. He just recently moved his family from Missouri to Waller.

"We moved out here because we heard the ISD school district is great," he said. "It's shocking."

Now he's second guessing his decision after his son handed him the letter.

"We teach our children, you are supposed to rely on a teacher, a police officer, anybody that is a figure they are supposed to rely on and now we have teachers messing with kids, it's crazy," said Miles.

Local 2 asked parents if they received the letter from their kids. Time after time, parents told us no they did not.

Waller ISD issued this statement to Local 2: "An allegation of inappropriate communications between a former paraprofessional employee and a student were reported on October 15, 2014. The employee alleged to be involved resigned. The Waller Independent School District administration takes every allegation seriously, and began an investigation immediately upon learning of the allegation. The investigation was turned over to the Harris County Sheriff's Office where it remains active.

'The safety of our staff and students remains our highest priority. The Waller Independent School District will not tolerate an employee who engages in inappropriate communications with children. All Waller ISD employees are expected to serve as role models for our students and demonstrate exemplary conduct,' said Waller ISD Superintendent Danny Twardowski.

Due to the active investigation, the district is prohibited from releasing additional information at this time."

"I've been with this district for awhile and I am pretty confident that they are taking care of the situation and then informing us when we need to know," said parent Jalynee Geigley.

Other parents are left wanting to know more and if the former employee will face any charges.

"I'll definitely be calling the school, definitely," parent Kristy Hernandez said.

"I think they should let someone know this is confined or contained to maybe one student and I don't have to worry because that's what I'm doing now. I'm praying there isn't other kids," said Miles.

Waller ISD says the employee was an educational aide.
