HOUSTON – Police said crooks hijacked an armored truck in southeast Houston, but they did not get very far.
At around 7:30 a.m. Monday, a Loomis armored car was parked in front of the Walgreens on Cullen and Reed. The driver was inside at the ATM.
"She was getting the money from the ATM machine, noticed two suspects at the Red Box, didn't pay any attention to them. When she was walking back, they started following her. She got scared and ran to her truck. They followed her, pulled a gun out and said, 'Get in the back,'" said Sgt. James Holcomb, with the Houston Police Department.
Police say the suspects demanded her gun so she took her gun belt off and gave it to them. While they were trying to get the gun out of the holster, she jumped out of the truck and ran.
The suspects got into the armored truck and took off, but they didn't get very far.
"There is some code she is supposed to enter when the doors open, which she didn't, so the car made it two buildings over and it died. Once that happened, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot," said Holcomb.
The FBI was called out to assist. If you have any information on this robbery, please call the Houston Police Department.
