HOUSTON – A group of burglars smashed into a northwest Houston convenience store and took off with the ATM.
Dickson Orgdo is a clerk at the Phillips 66 on West Montgomery Road and was inside when a pickup truck rammed through the front wall three times around 2 a.m. Thursday.
Orgdo said the crooks went straight for the ATM:
"They were helping each other, saying 'come on, come on, let's go, let's go,' and then they just [took off]."
The Houston Police Department said a large group of suspects was involved in the crime.
"After they were able to make entry into the store, seven [men] wearing masks jumped out of the truck and ran inside the business," said Larry Crowson, with HPD. "They grabbed one ATM and placed it in the back of the truck. They tried to get the other one but were unsuccessful."
Investigators said the truck used to smash into the store was found abandoned three blocks away without the ATM.
Police reviewed surveillance video inside the store, hoping it would help them track down the thieves.
A few customers were also inside the store at the time, police said, but thankfully none of them were hurt.
"It's really devastating," said Drew Shaw, who lives in the area. "I can't believe someone would actually do something like [that], it's unacceptable."
If you have any information about the crime, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department.
