HOUSTON – A man died on the Katy Freeway in southwest Houston late Friday night after he crashed his car into a tow truck and SUV that were in the emergency lane.

A red Nissan Altima hit the Expedition and the tow truck, said police, and the Altima's driver was killed on impact. The identity of the 29-year-old man is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The tow truck driver was not hurt. Police do not think alcohol played a role in the accident.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
