Man accused of stealing as many as 7 Camaros from Houston car lot

HOUSTON – Houston police have arrested a man who is accused of stealing multiple cars off a dealership lot.

According to court documents, employees noticed that seven Chevy Camaros were missing from Knapp Chevrolet. The manager said those cars were placed on the storage lot during the expansion of their dealership.

Police received a tip about the missing cars during their investigation. The tip lead them to Alfonso Serrano, 28, investigators said.

Investigators learned Serrano had a home in La Porte and his father had a home in Baytown. Investigators went to both homes and found a Camaro at both addresses.

According to court documents, investigators found that the VIN numbers had been switched on both cars.

The manager of Knapp Chevrolet believes Serrano stole all seven cars that disappeared from the lot. The manager believes Serrano was able to get the keys for the cars from the boxes that sit on the windows of the vehicles.

The alleged thefts occurred between July 2014 and August 2014.

Serrano is charged with theft and the felony offense of false information on a motor vehicle title application.
