HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Charges have been filed against a man accused of killing two people whose bodies were found inside the garage of their Mission Bend home.
Peide Yang, 53, has been charged with murder. According to investigators, the victims were his wife and stepson.
The bodies of Zhi Liu, 55, and Bang An, 22, were found in the 15300 block of La Mancha Drive on Sept. 3.
Precinct 4 deputies went to the home to conduct a welfare check after a concerned woman said she had not heard from her friend in several days. The woman went to the home and smelled a foul odor coming from the garage and immediately called deputies. That is when the bodies of the mother and son were found.
Detectives said it appears they had been dead for days.
The SUV parked in the garage had two shattered windows and what appeared to be two bullet holes in the driver side of the vehicle. A neighbor says she heard what sounded like a loud bang several days before the bodies were found, but thought it could have been fireworks left over from the Fourth of July.
Neighbors are worried the suspect hasn't been arrested.
"I don't want to be outside a lot because he could come back," said neighbor Arinna Ayele.
The victim's relatives speak Chinese, but through a translation device they told Local 2 they don't know why Yang would kill his stepson and wife. The family says there is a possibility he may have fled the country to China.
The victims were positively identified on Sept. 19.
An arrest warrant was issued for Yang. Anyone with information of his whereabouts are asked to call Houston Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-8477 of the Homicide Division of the Harris County Sheriff's Office at (713) 967-5810.
