Police say the trouble started at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday when two armed men robbed the TMP Pharmacy on 455 School Street. As the responding officers arrived on scene, the pair fled the scene in their getaway car.

Police chased the vehicle and watched as the suspects bailed out of their car just north of the pharmacy near a nursing home.

Investigators say a police officer shot one of the suspects. He was taken to a hospital.

The other suspect ran into some nearby woods and was later caught at the Dartford Square Apartments in the 1100 block of S. Cherry. The suspect had kicked in the door of an apartment where a mother, her 4-year-old and 18-month-old children were living.

A resident alerted police and officers went door-to-door until they found the unit where the suspect was hiding. Officers were able to coax the suspect to surrender after about an hour-and-a-half. He was taken into custody.

A third suspect was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon. Police say he was found hiding in another getaway car that was left in the retirement center parking lot, where the shootout with police took place.

The mother and her two small children were not hurt. Police say the vehicle the suspects were driving was stolen.
