Fast food workers in Houston rally for higher pay

HOUSTON – Fast food workers were out in full force Thursday morning rallying for higher pay.

Across the nation thousands of workers went on strike along with thousands of workers on six continents. The workers are demanding an increase in pay to $15 an hour, which is why they specifically chose May 15 for the strike.

Local 2 caught up with some workers in southwest Houston. Many complained that the low wages make it impossible to care for their family.

"It's pretty when I see families walking out the store with shopping cart full of stuff and that makes me think that if I had a better wage I could do the same thing, because I have two children," said one protester.

The federal minimum wage currently stands at $7.25 an hour.
