HPD: Suspected carjacker shot dead by victim

HOUSTON – Authorities say a suspected carjacker is dead after the man he tried to pull a gun on shot him.

It happened around 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Crown Garden apartments in the 7000 block of Hillcroft Avenue near Bellaire Boulevard.

Houston police say the victim was leaving for work when he was approached at his car by an armed man.

The victim and the man got into a fight over the car, according to police. The victim got out of the vehicle, got the gun away from the man and shot him.

Police say the man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was not injured.

Officials say this case is now being referred to a grand jury to see if the victim will face charges.
