Houston City Council passes restrictions on payday, auto title lending No description found
HOUSTON â The Houston City Council Wednesday overwhelmingly passed restrictions on payday and auto title lenders.
Houston now joins other major Texas cities with the passage. The ordinance would cap how much money a customer can borrow and restrict how many times they rollover a loan.
Critics of the plan had said too much regulation would harm the very people who need to borrow money in times of emergencies.
The measure will take effect July 1, 2014, with the city's new budget year.
