First METRO light rail expansion in 10 years to open

HOUSTON – Metro is celebrating the opening of its first light rail segment since it opened in January 2004. The North Line segment will open Saturday December 21st and Metro's Chairman and Interim President and CEO are guests on this weeks' Houston Newsmakers with Khambrel Marshall.

"The new segment us an improved travel choice for the residents in the community." said Tom Lambert Metro's Interim President and CEO. "They're going to get expanded hours of service. They're going to get better service, more service because of the north line extension and we'll see the same thing happening on the East end in Harrisburg and the southeast line as well."

Metro Chairman of the board Gilbert Garcia says the new line is just the beginning of several more rail expansions. "It will continue north to Northline mall about 5 miles or so and then we'll be adding 2 news lines in approximately 12 months," he said.  "The Harrisburg line will go all the way to the Magnolia Transit Center and the Southeast line that will go to Palm Center. Also this week, former Crime Stoppers CEO Kim Ogg on her plan to run for Harris County District Attorney. Ogg, now in private practice worked as a Harris County  Assistant District Attorney and was the city's Anti Gang Task Force leader during the late 90s. Ogg says her style is what Harris county needs.
