HOUSTON – The cold weather is partially to blame for a townhouse fire in southwest Houston.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the homeowner at 200 Vanderpool forgot to open his chimney flue after lighting logs in his fireplace early Wednesday morning.

The homeowner said it was the first time he tried to use the fireplace this year.

Firefighters had to tear down the fireplace from the outside. Flames also damaged a wall inside. HFD did not report any injuries.
