CCSO: 3 charged after woman held captive for several months in Winnie

WINNIE, Texas – Three men are facing charges for aggravated assaults after police said they held a woman against her will for nearly eight months in Winnie.

Investigators with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office say that the victim was allegedly repeatedly assaulted and held against her will between September 2011 and May 2012.

The sheriff's office says investigators were made aware of the case in August 2013.

Authorities say it was not until May 2012 when the mother of the victim intervened and took her daughter to a hospital. At that time, the victim was in critical condition and entered a comatose state for about four weeks. 

Authorities said during their investigation, they discovered similar allegations of abuse involving other victims. 

On October 17 and 18, 57-year-old Rusty Sherrill, 23-year-old James Logan Ruff and 21-year-old Max Lee Ruff were arrested for aggravated assault – causing serious bodily injury.

The name of the initial victim has not been released by authorities because this is an ongoing investigation.
