Police said the girl and her grandmother were on their way to Audrey Judy Bush Elementary School, when they crossed at an unsafe part of the street.

Officials said the girl was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for a minor cut. The grandmother was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital and was conscious and alert.

Police said no charges were filed because the pair did not cross the street at a crosswalk.

The principal planned to send a letter home to parents reminding them of safe street crossing guidelines.
