HOUSTON – The woman who investigators said tried to hire a hit man to kill her Houston firefighter husband will not spend time in jail.
In June, Brittany Rachelle Martinez pleaded guilty to a charge of solicitation of capital murder.
According to court records, Martinez, 26, paid a friend $1,000 as a down payment for the killing. She did not care how her husband, Adrian Martinez, was killed. And, she wanted him to die at Houston Fire Station 60, where he worked as a firefighter.
That friend went to police.
Baldemar Saenz said he was disappointed that his daughter-in-law was only sentenced to eight years probation.
"If she would've gone through with it, it would have been a million dollars," said Saenz.
Saenz said Martinez would have received $1 million from life insurance if her husband would have been killed.
On Wednesday morning, a judge sentenced Brittany Martinez to eight years probation.
The couple, who have two children, have been in this court battle since she was charged with solicitation of capital murder last year.
Rober Kuehm, Adrian Martinez attorney said, "The sad part of this is I've seen no remorse. I've seen no remorse in the family law case. I've seen no remorse here. Other than a plea of guilty."
Martinez's lawyer wanted to make sure everyone knew how much Adrian appreciated the support from his fellow fighters, who have stood by him throughout this entire process.
