Sinkhole repairs complete in northeast Houston

The hole near I-10 was estimated to be about 15 feet wide and 3 to 4 feet deep

HOUSTON – Workers spent the night digging to the water line so they could repair a massive hole that opened up on a  northeast Houston street.

It happened on Market Street near the I-10 East Freeway. From Sky 2, you could see a large hole in the middle of the street.

The hole was estimated to be about 15 feet wide and 3 to 4 feet deep.

Alvin Wright with City Public Works Department told Local 2 this was water main break that washed away the sub soil causing the concrete to collapse.

Neighbors said the road had been weakening for some time.  They believe a city bus drove over the weakened area of Market street causing the road to cave in.

Overnight, crews were able to fill up the hole and repair the street.
