Baby injured during father's shoplifting attempt at Walmart

Police say he pushed over a cart with the baby inside

HOUSTON – A father is accused of hurting his infant daughter during a shoplifting attempt in west Houston.

Tracy Donte Burleson, 20, is charged with endangering a child and theft.

According to police, Burleson was approached by security guards as he tried to leave the Walmart in the 9400 block of West Sam Houston Parkway South on Friday.

Officials said Burleson had stolen two sets of sheets.

According to authorities, he was pushing his 7-month-old daughter in a shopping cart in the parking lot when the officers tried to get him to stop. There was a struggle, and  according to court documents, Burleson pushed over the shopping cart injuring the baby.

Burleson was arrested and taken into custody. He's being held in the Harris County Jail on a $8,500 bond.
