Charges dropped against fmr. middle school assistant principal

John Hayman

Drug charges have been dropped against an assistant principal at a Galveston middle school.

Back in November 2012, John Hayman was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Houston police said vice officers ran an undercover operation at Excellence 24/7 Video on Nov. 4, 2012, after receiving complaints of indecent exposure and prostitution.

Officers said they told all of the customers to get out of the store for questioning, but they found one private room door that was locked. Detectives said they found Hayman inside. Police said they searched Hayman and found crystal meth in his possession.

The case was dismissed on May 21. Court records show the state was unable to prove its case.

Hayman was an assistant principal at Austin Middle School in Galveston. He was placed on administrative leave pending outcome of the investigation. He had been employed by the district since 2006.

It's unclear as to whether Hayman will return to the job or not.
