Trail riders converge on Memorial Park

HOUSTON – More than 3,000 trail riders saddled up and rode into Memorial Park on Friday.

The Southwestern Trail Riders left Angleton Sunday. They are the only group with a female trail boss and female assistant trail boss.

"Sometimes, we might get a little bucked, but we have to stand our ground and just be firm in what we say, because we know what we're doing," trail boss Rosetta Gray said.

The first Rodeo Houston trail ride was in January 1952 with just four men. Today, there are 13 trail riding groups.

Trail riders will be arriving at Memorial Park until 5 p.m. Friday. They will be riding in the Rodeo Houston Parade in Downtown Houston at 10 a.m.
