HOUSTON – Vandals have targeted a Montgomery County golf course, driving on the fairway and causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Crews at the Woodforest Golf Club are scrambling to fix the course, before a big event tees off there in a few days.
Crews will be working overtime to get the 11th hole ready after vandals apparently did donuts in the golf carts.
"It seems like fun to them, but I don't think they understand what kind of damage they're doing and the money involved," said Patrick O'Neill, the golf course's superintendent.
According to the owner, about $5,000 worth of damage was done.
The vandals got onto the property through a residential area under construction near the course, officials said.
The U.S. Men's Amateur qualifying tournament is scheduled for July 17 and 18. The general manager said the eleventh hole will be ready for play.
Woodforest is offering a $500 cash reward to anyone who anonymously provides information leading to the arrest.
