HOUSTON – Residents in the Clear Lake area said they are fed up with a recent crime spike in their area.
A 72-year-old woman who lives at the Las Brisas Apartments on El Dorado near Highway 3 said she is armed and ready if thieves target her home.
"When I go to bed at night, I got a 38 Rossi in my apartment," said the woman, who requested she not be identified. "If they come in one me, I will use it. I know how because I used to go to the range a lot."
According to Houston police, there have been more than 65 break-ins at houses, apartments and businesses since March.
Detectives said that they're investigating several robberies, car thefts and shoplifting cases in the area, too.
Some residents said they were not aware of the recent cases.
"I just moved to this area and I had no idea prior to that," resident Melissa Zink said.
Some of the apartment complexes with the most problems are on El Dorado, El Camino and Bay Area Boulevard.
