HOUSTON – Three cars were burglarized at a southwest Houston park on Monday.
A group of men gathered at Marian Park in the 10600 block of South Gessner to play soccer. While they were on the field, thieves made them crime victims.
"It's really heartbreaking," victim Frank Boateng said. "I know it does happen, but I thought we were pretty safe out here."
The thieves smashed windows and took whatever they could grab.
Boateng and Bright Nkrumah, another victim, said they left their wallets in their cars because they were on the field.
One of the three cars was easy to burglarize because the owner didn't lock the doors.
"He just reached into that car and grabbed whatever," Nkrumah said.
The victims said they have no idea who broke into their vehicles. They said they did not realize that anything had happened until after they finished the game.
Police said the break-ins are a stinging reminder that no matter how close to their car a person is and no matter how secure they feel, valuables should never be left in plain sight.
