Town hall meeting to address Blomberg case

Meeting follows protests held last week

HOUSTON – A town hall meeting will be held Monday after the acquittal of former Houston police officer Andrew Blomberg.

He was charged with official oppression, but was found not guilty by a jury on Wednesday.

The verdict led to a protest in front of the Harris County Criminal Justice Center on Thursday.

On Friday, activists met with Harris County District Attorney Pat Lykos to discuss the law and the criminal justice process. After the meeting, some activisits were arrested for obstructing the lobby of the District Attorney's office.

Questions surrounding the trial may be answered at Monday's meeting. It starts at 6 p.m. at the Shape Community Center at 3903 Almeda Road.

Three other former HPD officers will go on trial for their roles in the beating of burglary suspect Chad Holley in March 2010. Drew Ryser, Philip Bryan and Raad Hassan are all charged with official oppression.

Holley has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against all four of the former HPD officers.
