Houston police said Erminger called his live-in girlfriend, Jennifer Lynette McKinley, 28, to pick him up at a bar because he was too drunk to drive home on May 18.
McKinley drove Erminger back to their home in the 2100 block of Lake Hills Drive and the two began to argue, detectives said.
At some point, Erminger killed McKinley, police said.
Investigators said Erminger called his mother the next morning and told her that he killed McKinley and he planned to commit suicide. The mother called 911 and went to the home, where Erminger was arrested.
Detectives said McKinley's 8-year-old son was inside the home when his mother was killed. He was asleep in a separate bedroom and did not see or hear the killing, police said. The boy was turned over to his biological father.
