Schools locked down after bank robbery

Lockdowns at Bens Branch Elementary, White Oak Middle lifted

PORTER, Texas – Two schools in New Caney were briefly locked down Tuesday while police searched for bank robbery suspects.

New Caney Independent School District officials said the lockdowns were at Bens Branch Elementary, 24160 Briar Berry Lane, and White Oak Middle School, 24161 Briar Berry Lane, in Porter.

The lockdowns were lifted shortly before 11:15 a.m., but outdoor activities at both schools were canceled for the rest of the day.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said the First Bank and Trust in the 24800 block of F.M. 1314 was robbed about 9:30 a.m.

Investigators said two men with a semiautomatic handgun demanded cash.

One of them men gathered the employees in a central part of the bank while the other man cleared out a cash drawer.

The men's getaway car was found about a mile away from the bank, detectives said. The car had been reported stolen.

Detailed descriptions of the men have not been released. Investigators said they were wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks.

A bank employee said the branch was also robbed less than a month ago.
