HOUSTON – A missing woman's husband was arrested and charged with her murder after he confessed to killing her and burning her body, detectives said.
Isabel Alvarado was last seen leaving the Taco Bell where she worked on Highway 6 near Kieth Harrow at about 3:15 a.m. on March 30. Her husband, Carlos Antonio Alvarado, had not been seen since Isabel's disappearance, but showed up Saturday at the home base for his wife's search. Hours later, he was arrested for her murder.
Harris County detectives said a piece of information leaked to them by an unnamed family member led them to arrest Carlos.
Officials with Texas EquuSearch said they called off the search Sunday morning after receiving a call from deputies. Investigators said upon his arrest, Alvarado confessed to choking his wife and then burning her body.
"Her remains were located in a location far away from here," Frank Black with EquuSearch said.
On Easter Sunday, as families celebrated in church, Isabel's family grieved for her.
"We gave her to him whole -- young, beautiful, and for her to end like this, is just not fair," said Juan Lara, Isabel's father. "I hope one day he realizes the bad he has done. As we suffered, he didn't say anything."
The family will have to determine who will take custody of the couple's children, two of whom are younger than 18.
Carlos Alvarado was charged with manslaughter, deputies said. His bail was set at $100,000.
