The cause of Stevens' death is under investigation.

Erskine left the apartment after making that call, investigators said. On Monday, he was charged with murder.

Detectives said they got information about Erskine's whereabouts and members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force went to the Canfield Lakes Apartments in the 13300 block of Northborough.

Officers conducting surveillance near the complex's parking lot said they saw Erskine pull out a gun and fatally shoot himself.
