Mom accused of abandoning 2 children

HOUSTON – A mother is in jail after police said she left her two young children home alone.

Houston police said Jalisa Thompson, 20, left her 2-month-old and 20-month-old children alone for about 20 minutes inside her apartment on the 12000 block of Bissonnet on Monday.

Officials said a maintenance worker discovered the children and alerted management and police.

The mother was found in the parking lot of the complex, talking to an ex-boyfriend, investigators said.

Thompson was arrested and the children were handed over to her common-law husband.

Thompson is being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
