President Kennedy gave an impromptu speech there before thousands of people on the day of his death. He left Fort Worth for Dallas, where he was shot and killed at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 22, 1963, in Dealey Plaza.

An artist's rendering depicts the memorial in the square, with a bronze statue of the late president.
