After spotting the crime in progress on security cameras, officials said the security team sprang into action, but the would-be crooks abandoned the machine and took off on foot before they could get to them.

Investigators said two of the suspects jumped a fence into a nearby apartment complex at the 7600 block of Phoenix Drive. Police set up a perimeter and began searching for the suspects, officials said, and with the help of a security guard from the complex, they were soon able to locate the pair hiding in some shrubbery.

Investigators said one of the suspects was caught by police, but the other managed to escape.

Officials said the would-be crooks would have made off with around $60,000 in cash had they made off with the ATM machine.
