Pearland police chase ends in Houston

Teens hold up Sonic, lead cops on chase

PEARLAND, Texas – A high-speed police chase that ended in southwest Houston and started more than 30 miles away in Pearland was caught on camera.

Pearland police said the chase started at the Sonic on Pearland Parkway at about 11:40 p.m. Friday.  Investigators said two 16-year-olds rushed in with what appeared to be guns, robbed the workers, stole their phones and stole the money in the safe as the workers were closing the business. Police said the two even cut the store's phone so no one could call for help.

"At about the time they were leaving, one of the employees drove up, and then the employees inside told him call 911," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez of the Pearland Police.

Police spotted the getaway car and followed it on the Beltway, onto 288 and finally onto the Southwest Freeway.  The driver made his own exit just past the Fondren exit by going down the embankment and onto the access road.  Police followed car off the freeway, through the weeds and over a curb.  That's when the driver blew his tire and the car rolled to a stop.

At gunpoint, police ordered both teens out of the car. Both were arrested. Police said the guns used in the robbery were BB gun pistols. Police said the teens are from the Alief area.
