HOUSTON – A Texas man who may be responsible for more than half a dozen Dallas-area bank holdups was arrested Tuesday in Jackson County, Miss.
Steven Ray Milam, 44, had been sought by Richardson, Texas, police after a Saturday morning incident in which a police officer who responded to a robbery call was fired on.

Jackson County, Miss., Sheriff Mike Byrd said Milam was spotted in a red BMW on Interstate 10 headed west on Tuesday but refused to stop for lawmen. Byrd said deputies threw down tire-spikes to halt Milan three different times, but he kept driving.
"That's when I pulled up beside him and shot out his tire," Byrd said. "We had cleared the interstate before I did it."
Milam was arrested when the car came to a stop.
Richardson police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Perlich said the first police unit to arrive at the bank Saturday received gunfire from the suspect. While there were at least three bullet holes in a squad car, no one was injured.
Police said Milam is a suspect in the robberies of more than a half dozen banks in the last year, wearing a latex mask each time. Perlich said Milam was wanted for attempted capital murder of a police officer and bank robbery.
Milam is a suspect in two bank robberies in Houston.
