HOUSTON – A woman died after she was found along a southeast Houston street Friday.
Houston police said someone spotted the woman on a storm sewer grate on River Drive near Interstate 45 about 7:30 a.m. and called 911.
Paramedics said they felt a pulse so they rushed her to a hospital, but she died on the way.
Detectives said the woman was Hispanic, in her 30s or 40s, and she was partially nude. She was wearing a white shirt and what appeared to be a man's hooded sweatshirt, police said. No identification was found with the body, officials said.
"She was probably sexually assaulted, most likely, because you're not going to throw a body there half-naked unless you did something to the body," resident Rosemary Garcia said.
The woman's body showed signs of trauma, investigators said.
"We believe there are suspicious circumstances behind her death," Sgt. Billy Bush said. "We need to know who she is ... we can talk to family and friends and find out who the last person she was with or might have been with."
Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
