Temperatures dipped to 29 degrees in Houston on Wednesday morning, but they're expected to dip even lower on Thursday.

Several Southeast Texas counties were under a hard freeze warning.

"We're in for a fast freeze this evening," KPRC Local 2 chief meteorologist Frank Billingsley said. "As soon as that sun goes down, it's going to get cold. The clear sky is the culprit here."

Temperatures were dropped into the 30s Wednesday evening.

"Up in our northern counties, near Conroe and Livingston, we'll have seven to 10 hours of below-freezing temperatures -- 24 to 27 degrees. To the west of the downtown Houston area, we'll have three to seven hours of below-freezing temps of 27 to 30," KPRC Local 2 meteorologist Anthony Yanez said. "The cold is not going anywhere for the next couple of mornings."

Friday will warm up a bit and a have a low of 40 and a high of 58.

"There's a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday," Yanez said.

Saturday and Sunday are forecast to have lows of 38 degrees and highs of 58 and 56.

"There's also a small chance of rain on Sunday if those lows hit us in the right spot," Yanez said.

Texas Department of Transportation officials are also getting ready for another night of freezing temperatures. They are monitoring road conditions to make sure ice does not coat roadways.

TxDOT has 34 trucks it can send out across the area to spray magnesium chloride on overpasses. They will treat about 10,000 lane miles, if needed.

"Check the road before you go," TxDOT spokeswoman Raquelle Lewis said. "If you don't have to be on the road when we are in the midst of inclement weather, just delay that travel.
