Rumors swirl after accused coach commits suicide

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – A school district is trying to stop rumors after a high school coach committed suicide after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

League City police said a parent reported Sunday that they suspected that Chad Hunt, a coach at Clear Creek High School for five years, had an inappropriate relationship with their 16-year-old daughter.

Investigators interviewed Hunt about the allegations on Tuesday.

Hunt was found dead inside a Jeep in Brazoria County Wednesday morning, detectives said. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

School district officials said the tragic situation was made far worse when the girl's identity was revealed.

"That has perhaps exasperated a very, very sad situation here," school district spokeswoman Elaina Polsen said. "There is a great deal of texting, emailing, social media activity that is not in the best interest of our school, of our students."

Sources told KPRC Local 2 that since the teen's name was made public, she has been constantly harassed.

KPRC Local 2 has learned the name of the girl, but has a policy to not identify possible sex crime victims.

The school's principal addressed students on Friday.

"I shared with students today that Clear Creek High School must rise above this and refrain from creating or spreading information that will only hurt our student body," Principal Scott Bockart said.

League City police said they have closed their investigation into the allegations.
