Principal on leave during police investigation

Billy Foster is principal at North Shore Senior High School

GALENA PARK, Texas – A high school principal was taken off the job while police investigate him for possible criminal activity.

North Shore Senior High School Principal Billy Foster was placed on administrative leave on Monday after the Galena Park Independent School District was notified that he is under investigation.

"They also indicated that he was not arrested nor was he charged with anything," school district spokesman Jonathan Frey said. "At that point, as is typical procedure, we put on administrative leave pending outcome of investigation."

Foster has been with the school district for 14 years. He worked as a teacher, an assistant principal and this was his first year at North Shore.

"Foster is a super guy," parent David Proctor said.

School district officials and police have not said why Foster is under investigation, but some parents said they were upset that they were not notified that he was placed on leave.

"That's serious," parent Melissa Cowens said. "Even though they're not sure if it's true or not, they should have at least contacted parents about it."

School district officials said they are conducting an internal investigation.

Officials have not said how long the police and school district investigations may last.
