"Our park here in Channelview is the pride of the kids and the pride of the Little League," said Channelview Little League President Sid Suarez. "To see something like this happen is pretty awful."
Nearly 600 people participate in the Channelview Little League. But the lack of working lights and restrooms forced several games to be canceled.
Harris County was able to make repairs to the lights in order to salvage a youth baseball game at 6 p.m. Thursday, but later games were canceled because the restrooms were not repaired.
"It was worth more to us than it was to them," Channelview Little League Coach Tony Herrera said. "We'll overcome."
Coaches said it was heartbreaking to tell the children about the thefts and the game cancellations.
A bronze commemorative plaque that was on a brick wall was also stolen, along with two bronze signs that designated restrooms.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
