Leviticus Williams is the principal of Sterling High School. He has been charged with assaulting a family member.

Houston police said Williams hit his girlfriend in the head with a bottle.

Houston Independent School District officials said Williams has been reassigned to off-campus duty. Assistant Principal Sam Dominguez has stepped into the principal's role until the legal matter is settled.

Students said they have heard rumors about what happened.

"All I heard was a little violence was involved," student Jarvis Stevenson said.

Parents said that if the allegations turn out to be true, Williams set a bad example for the students.

"He got a bad temper," parent Latoya Swift said. "He could go off on one of the students."

There is a sign as the school that says "parents are always welcome." Some parents said they plan to ask plenty of questions.

"It's not good at all," parent Angela Louison said.
