Sneak peaks of the movie are already making past band members and current high school staff proud.

With Conrad "Prof" Johnson at the helm, the band set the 1960s and 70s on fire. Band members said Johnson's combination of funk music and smoothly-crafted choreography transformed the struggling Kashmere High School band into a well-known powerhouse during those years.

Decades later, that scene has not been forgotten by former band members and by current music artists, like Jamie Foxx. Foxx and several others produced the documentary, which captures the reunion of the Kashmere Stage Band and recounts their rise to worldwide fame.

Thunder Soul will make its musical entrance into theaters across the country Friday. However, several locals got a preview over the last week, including current students and staff at Kashmere High School.

"It's humbling and an honor to be superintendent, and to be a part of something like this," Houston Independent School District superintendent Terry Grier said.

"It's a celebration of hard work and sacrifice from back in those years at school," said Russell Alexander, a band drummer from 1973 to 1976.
