The local run was a part of 35 other runs throughout the nation. It was held by the Travis Manion Foundation. Houston had more than 650 registered runners, with members from every branch of the armed forces. Overall, the Travis Manion Foundation expected more than 15,000 registered runners to participate nationwide.

The Travis Manion Foundation was created by the family of 1st Lt. Travis Manion. Manion had visited Rescue One in New York City before leaving for his second tour in Iraq. He came back with a ball cap for his father that said ?9/11 Never Forget.? Manion was killed in combat a few months later. His family now dedicates themselves to honoring the fallen with the 9/11 Hero Run challenge.

Proceeds go to assist wounded veterans and families of those who lost their lives.
