Courtney Gilmore

Reporter

Courtney Gilmore has been breaking news and covering stories for KPRC Channel 2 since October of 2008. Her reports span a variety of topics from wildfires and hurricanes, to political elections and human trafficking.

Along with field reporting, she is also adding anchoring to her repertoire. You can find her behind the desk anchoring the weekend morning newscast with her colleagues starting at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Do not be surprised if you see Courtney in front of a traffic map keeping you updated on your morning commute. Known around the station for her versatility, Courtney can step in for any position, including traffic reporter.

Recently, one of her favorite positions has been the role of "mentor" for young women and girls who are aspiring to reach their own endeavors. She  has guest lectured overseas at the American University in Dubai, and has held workshops at Prairie View A&M University, as well as the University of Houston. The deeper she steps into her craft as a journalist, the more humbling her stance becomes.

"I have come to realize that my platform is not to give voice to the voiceless. Those who are marginalized already have a voice," Courtney said. "It is simply my job to hand them a microphone, and add their voice to the story."
Courtney is proud to be a Houstonian -- born and bred in the Bayou City. She graduated from Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She trained with the Guthrie Theatre Acting Program at the University of Minnesota, where she also received her BFA degree in Classical Theatre in 2005.

Before graduating from the University of Minnesota, she performed and trained around the world from Shanghai and Beijing, China to London, England. Her proudest professional moment came when she got the chance to sit down and interview Sidney Potier.

"The world is a classroom, and I am forever learning," Courtney said.

Courtney went back to school to earn her master's degree at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Courtney is a huge theatre buff and loves the arts. She also loves running, enjoying the outdoors and extreme sports.
